WELCOME TO
St Cuthbert's
Anglican Church
Seeking to love God’s people back to Him, following the example of Christ, growing them in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Who We Are
Welcome to St Cuthbert’s Church, a spiritual home in the heart of Central, Gqeberha, where the beauty of tradition meets the vibrancy of present-day faith. Founded in 1884, our church has stood as a place of worship, refuge, and community for well over a century. Surrounded by magnificent stained-glass windows that tell the stories of Scripture and the saints, we are reminded daily of the light and hope that Christ brings into our lives.
As a parish in the Anglican tradition, we are shaped by the richness of the liturgy, the depth of Scripture, and the power of the Holy Spirit.
Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time or have been walking with Jesus for years, you are welcome here.
What We Do
We offer weekly Sunday and Wednesday Eucharist services, meaningful seasonal liturgies, small group gatherings, pastoral care visits, and opportunities to serve both within the church and in the wider community.
Loving
Loving the people of our city — across backgrounds, ages, and experiences — with open arms and compassionate hearts.
Following
Following Jesus in His humility, courage, and grace — through worship, service, and daily living.
Growing
Growing together in faith through teaching, prayer, pastoral care, and the empowering work of the Holy Spirit.
A Church for Today, Anchored in the Past
A Church for Today, Anchored in the Past
Though we honour our heritage — with stone walls that echo history and windows that catch the morning sun — we are not stuck in the past. We are a church moving with the times, seeking to respond to the needs of today’s Gqeberha with wisdom, love, and relevance.
Whether you’re looking for a place to worship, to belong, or to serve, you’ll find space here to be still, to grow, and to live fully into who God is calling you to be.
Come journey with us at St Cuthbert’s Church — where beauty, truth, and community meet in the presence of the living God.
Our Patron Saint:
St Cuthbert
Our church is named after St Cuthbert of Lindisfarne
(c. 634–687), one of the most beloved saints in the early Celtic Church. Known as a man of deep prayer, gentle leadership, and unwavering compassion, St Cuthbert served as bishop and monk in the windswept north of England. He lived much of his life in simplicity and solitude, yet was always drawn back into the lives of the people — healing the sick, caring for the poor, and spreading the gospel with humility and grace.
St Cuthbert’s legacy is a fitting inspiration for our parish: to be rooted in prayer and tradition, yet ever ready to go out and love, just as Christ did.
